Secure entrances at WGH
July 22, 2016
All outside entrances into WGH, except for the front door and the ER entrance, are now locked for security purposes. This includes the north entrances by the Rehab and Lab Departments. Anyone coming into the hospital must enter through the front doors or the ER entrance. The WGH administration's decision to leave only the main entrance and ER entrance unlocked was made as part of a security plan, as the hospital takes steps to make the facility as safe as possible for patients, visitors and staff.
The main doors will open at 6 a.m. and lock at 8 p.m., seven days a week. While the ER entrance will be unlocked at all times, the hallway door from ER into the main hospital will also lock every day at 8 p.m. and will be unlocked at 6 a.m. the next day.
WGH has several handicap parking spaces located at the very front of the facility, and the parking area betwen the hospital and the Doctors Clinic will still be available. While all of the doors, excepted the main and ER hallway entrances, will be locked, vistors will be able to use the other doors to exit the facility.
