Public Hearing on Tax Rate Rescheduled
August 24, 2018
Due to a clerical error in the previously published Notice of Public Hearing on Tax Increase, Wilbarger General Hospital is rescheduling the two public hearings on the proposal to increase the 2018 property tax rate for the Wilbarger County Hospital District.
The proposed tax increase was inadvertently listed as an 11 percent increase. Although the proposed tax increase is 11 cents, the actual percentage increase is 68.3 percent.
A new first public hearing on the proposed tax rate will be held at 11:30 a.m., Friday, Sept. 7, in the WGH Boardroom, and the second public hearing will be held at 6 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 13, in the WGH Boardroom.
WGH Chief Financial Officer Jay Hodges expressed the hospital’s apologizes for any confusion the mistake on the public notice may have caused Wilbarger County residents.
At a meeting earlier this month, the Wilbarger General Hospital Board of Directors approved a proposal to increase the 2018 property tax rate to $0.27000 per $100 valuation.
The proposed tax rate of $0.270000 would be approximately 10 cents higher than the 2018 rollback tax rate of $0.173707, and approximately 11 cents higher than the 2017 effective tax rate of $0.160840. The tax rate for 2017 was $0.160466. The proposed tax rate could generate approximately $1.1 million more in tax revenue for the hospital than the effective tax rate.
